Sunday March 22nd > Activities

Good Morning my dear Toddlers!

Have a wonderful first day of the week.

Small Group Activity:  Sensory play and cutting

Approximate Time: 15 minutes
Materials Needed:
      Safe scissors or plastic knife
     Spaghetti (Cooked)
Vocabulary: Cut, hold, thump, pieces, small, long, short, smallest, shortest, shorter.
How to start the activity:
Cook some spaghetti, when it cools down, spread the spaghetti in a bowl.
What to do in the middle:
Let your child touch the pasta, smell it, eat it, and let them explore the materials in their own way. You can ask open-ended questions like “I wonder how we can cut the spaghetti?  “I wonder how many pieces you cut?” Also, you can compare between each piece.
How to finish the activity:
Tell your child that after five minutes it's time to clean up
Keep the pasta in a Ziploc bag if they want to use it later.

Small Group Activity:  Painting with a toothbrush

Approximate Time: 15 minutes
Materials Needed:
     Any kind of paint
     Plain paper
     Toothbrush or paint brush
Vocabulary: Paint, wavy lines, straight lines, mix, light color, dark color.
How to start the activity:
Today we will paint using a toothbrush.
(For children who are hesitant to use a toothbrush, they can use a paint brush)
We will make marks on the paper like this (demonstrate)
What to do in the middle:
Notice what your child is doing or saying. “You’ve made a circle or a line.” I wonder what you drew? ”How many lines/triangles are there?”
Notice what will happen when you mix two colors.
     Encourage your child’s work
How to finish the activity:
     Give a five minutes warning
Clean up together and wash hands
