Monday, April 20th> Activities


Good Morning my dear Toddlers!

I will see you at 12:30 p.m. for our Morning Greeting!

At 2 p.m. we will have our Small Group #3: Elise, Vincent, Haya and Tamim.

At 2:30 p.m. we will have our Small Group #4: Khalid, Mohammed T, Ayla and Jenna.

Small Group Activity: Number recognition     
Approximate Time: 10 minutes
Materials Needed:
      Cut out of numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
      Draw circles and write the same numbers
      Glue stick
Vocabulary: same number, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, count
How to start the activity:
      Tell your child that you will match numbers and that you will count
What to do in the middle: 
      Say something like, “I wonder where I will glue number 1,
Wait for your child’s response.  Observe what she/he will do with the other numbers.  Support your child by mentioning the number and pointing to the similar number.  After you are done, you can add features of a caterpillar like the picture above.
Extension: Use small items like blocks to identify one on one correspondence.  Place one item on number 1, 2 items on number 2, and so on. You can also ask your child what number comes after number 5 and so on.
How to finish the activity: 
      Count the numbers together and choose a place to keep your caterpillar numbers.




Small Group Activity: What’s Hiding in our Jelly?
 Approximate Time: 10 minutes 
Materials Needed:
      Jelly
      Water
      Small objects (animals, toys, number puzzles, letters)
      Tong/Big spoon
Vocabulary: Jelly, cold, soft, hiding, flavor, taste, sweet.
How to start the activity:
      Prepare the jelly and put some toys or letters, animals, number puzzles inside and then place it in the fridge. You can leave it overnight or remove from the fridge after 4 hours.
What to do in the middle: 
      Ask your child, what is hiding in our jelly? You may also ask them, “How does the jelly feel? If they don’t like to touch the jelly, they might use tongs or a spoon!
      Let them explore, observe them, notice and acknowledge their work.
      If your child starts to taste the jelly then you may ask him/her, what is the flavor of the jelly?
Extension:
      You may ask them to wash the objects before putting them in the bowl. 
How to finish the activity: 
      Give the child a 5 minutes warning then clean up together.
