Tuesday April 28th> Activities

Good Morning my dear Toddlers!

I can't wait to see you at 12:30 p.m. during our Morning Greeting!

Small Group Activity: Vinegar and Baking Soda Science Experiment
Approximate Time: 10 minutes
Materials Needed:
  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Food Coloring (Optional)
  • Dropper
  • Plate
Vocabulary: Science, experiment, effervescent, bubbly, reaction
How to start the activity:
  • On a plate, place small amounts of baking soda.
  • Tell the child that today you will do a science experiment and check what will happen when you add some vinegar to the baking soda (you can add some drops of food coloring to the vinegar.)
What to do in the middle:
  • Observe what happens when the vinegar touches the baking soda. It has an effervescent reaction and it makes some bubbles.
  • You can describe what is happening and add vocabulary to your child.
  • Let the child explores more in different ways.
How you can extend the activity: You can make a volcano with playdough and add some baking soda in the bottom. Then let the child add vinegar and talk about what a volcano is and where can you find them.
How to finish the activity:
  • Give the child a 5 minutes warning.
  • Tell the child that it is time to clean up. Let him/her help you to put the materials away.

Small Group Activity: Memory Game with Bottle Caps

Approximate Time: 10 minutes
Materials Needed:
  • A pair number of bottle caps (6, 8 or 10)
  • Different color paint or small pieces of colored paper.
Vocabulary: Matching, same, pair, different, memory, remembering.
How to start the activity:
  • Get the bottle caps and in the inside part, paint two caps of the same color. You should have for example: Two red, two yellow, two blue and two green.
  • Flip the bottle caps so the child can’t see the color that you paint inside.
  • Tell the child that you will play a memory game. He or she should remember where the other pair of the same color is.
What to do in the middle:
  • Take turns with the child to flip the bottle cap.
  • When you or the child finds the matching pair put it on the side.
  • Encourage the child to remember where the matching pair was.
How you can extend the activity: Collect more water bottles and instead of colors, you can write letters, numbers or shapes inside and let the child find the matching pair.
How to finish the activity:
  • Give the child a 5 minutes warning.
  • Tell the child that it is time to clean up. Let him/her help you to put the materials away.
